LATAM Airlines History
LATAM Airlines Group is the largest airline group in Latin America, formed by the merger of Chile's LAN Airlines and Brazil's TAM Airlines. The group has a strong presence in South America, with affiliates in Argentina, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru. LATAM also flies to more than 60 international destinations in Europe, North America, Oceania and Asia.
The airline group was created in 2012, when LAN Airlines and TAM Airlines joined forces. The two airlines had been working together since 2010, under a codeshare agreement. The merger made LATAM the largest airline group in Latin America and gave it a stronger presence in South America.
LATAM has a fleet of more than 350 aircraft, including Airbus A320s, A330s, Boeing 767s and 777s. The airline group has its main hubs at Santiago International Airport (SCL) and São Paulo-Guarulhos International Airport (GRU).
